Bob Marley (6 February 1945 – 11 May 1981), a Jamaican reggae icon, pioneered the genre by blending reggae, ska, and rocksteady. His distinctive vocals and songwriting style elevated Jamaican music globally, making him a cultural symbol. Marley, a Rastafarian, infused spirituality into his music and supported social reforms, cannabis legalization, and Pan-Africanism. Surviving an assassination attempt in 1976, Marley continued his musical journey with the Wailers, achieving international success with albums like "Natty Dread" and "Exodus." Diagnosed with melanoma in 1977, he passed away in 1981, leaving a lasting legacy. "Legend," released in 1984, became the best-selling reggae album, and Marley remains one of the top-selling artists with over 75 million records sold worldwide. Posthumously, he received numerous honors, including induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and recognition by Jamaica with the Order of Merit.
